Buy a new standup paddleboard or a trampoline for the kids? Summer is getting closer and you want the kids to spend more time outdoor and be more active. So should you buy that cool looing Berg trampoline or one of the new popular standup paddleboards? Both solutions would most likely be a good choice, but which is the best? Let's look at it from a financial view first. A cheap paddleboard cost around 150$ and if you got 2 kids you will need two boards to get started here. So a total investment of 300$. For 300$ you can also get a cheap trampoline but let's face it. Cheap trampolines sucks. They are fun for a week or two then you will be good enough to notice they are crap and don't use them much more. But don't just take my word for it. Take a l ook at the gardens around your place and you will likely see a bunch of unused trampolines that the parents have bought for the kids which arn't be using anymore. If you want a trampoline buy a quality one like a Berg trampoline, the kids will be using it much more. A good trampoline will most likely set you back around 500$ so about $200 more than the cheap paddleboards.

A trampoline is fun when it's hot outdoor, when it's windy and even when it's a bit cold. Unless you are a huge fan, a standup paddleboard is mainly fun when it's nice weather. So there will be more days where you can use the trampoline compared to a supboard. Also the longer you have to water, the less likely you are to take the time going there. A trampoline is just outdoor so it's much easier to just go out in the garden and begin jumping around.

Normally the children spend about half an hour on the trampoline before loosing intersting and moving on to something else. On a paddleboard they can easily spend 2-3 hours not to mention the time to travel to the spot. So if you want more quiet time then the paddleboard is a clear winner.

What is more safe? You often hear about accidents on the trampoline, but a lot of the time here it's because they have bought a to cheap model. The cheaper models don't have the same safety features and are more likely to break down after a season or two outdoor if not covered. A quality model like a Berg trampoline is in my opinion more safe than paddleboarding which is also quite safe. Especailly if you use a lifewest as you always should do when out on the water. Even if you are a very skilled swimmer. But I would say that if you follow common sense both types of sport are really safe compared to many other activities like mountainbiking, riding, skiing. Something most don't think twice about letting their children do. But know a lot of parents are a bit worried about sending their children out on the water alone.

If your kids are really into tumbling or gymnastics - you could consider getting an Airtrack instead of a trampoline as it would likely be more fun if you already know most of the gymnastic jumps. An Airtrack is an inflatable gymnastic mat which offers a boost when doing jumps on it, which is quite fun once you reach a certain skill level. Airtracks are also one of the newer type of sports which are getting hugely popular. So in many cases it would be a better option than a trampoline, if they are good at doing various gymnatic jumps. Or start out with a trampoline and later on replace it with an Airtrack.

Another thing I don't like about the trampoline is that it looks ugly out in the garden. This can be helped a lot by buying an inground or flatground model, but it will require a lot of digging to get that installed properly. And you won't be able to move it around once it's properly installed.

Or you could simply just go all in and buy a paddleboard for the whole family and use it as a family activity. It's fun for all, and a great way to get some quality time together as a family. Maybe even use it for a small camping trip down the river - that's super cozy and something I can really recommend. A great way to bond with your family and have a good time all together.

So what to buy - a trampoline or a paddleboard? Well if you can affort it I would say both. If not I would say it depends on how you live from the water. If it's quite near and the conditions there are good for paddleboard, I would most likely go with the paddleboard over trampolines. But that's just my opinion. If your children are into gymnastics, tumbling, cheerleading or parkour then Airtrack may be even a better option - at least something worth checking out.
